Bassoonist Shawn Seguin to perform March 21 at Tech

bassoonist seguin headshotBassoonist Shawn Seguin will be the guest artist at a School of Music performance on Monday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Tennessee Tech University’s Wattenbarger Auditorium.  

Seguin currently serves as the bassoon instructor at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa and is on the music faculty at Eastern Iowa Community College in Bettendorf, Iowa.  He was the recipient of the School of Music’s prestigious and highly competitive award: the Iowa Performance Fellowship. He served as the Teaching Assistant for the bassoon studio and was the winner of the university’s Concerto Competition while attending the University of Iowa. 

He earned a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Music degree at the University of Michigan, and his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Iowa.  

Seguin is the bassoonist and director of education and programming of the non-profit organization, Wild Prairie Winds. He has served as Acting Principal Bassoon with the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale in Midland, Texas. He frequently performs with Des Moines Symphony, Quad City Symphony Orchestra, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, and WCF Symphony. 

Seguin performed with the groups Dallas Winds, Allen Philharmonic, and the West Texas Winds while in Texas. He regularly performs solo and chamber recitals at the International Double Reed Society’s annual conferences. He has presented masterclasses and clinics across the nation and is an in-demand clinician. 

The concert is free and open to the public.

This event is organized by Tech’s School of Music.  Wattenbarger Auditorium is in the Bryan Fine Arts Building, 1150 N. Dixie Ave., Cookeville.
