Abernathy, of Fairview, will communicate with contractors and crew members to develop cost estimates, then design water and wastewater mains based on their input.

Co-op experience gives Tennessee Tech students an edge as they get ready to start their careers, said Don Foster, Career Services associate director. The experiential education program can help students develop skills and better discover what they want to do when they enter the workforce after graduation.

Students from all academic disciplines are eligible for the Tennessee Tech co-op program, which is coordinated by the Office of Career Services. The office works regularly with hundreds of employers across the Southeast including business, industry, non-profit and government agencies to fit students career interests.

Tennessee Tech University, with an enrollment of more than 11,000 students, has been selected as one of the nation s 50 Best Value public colleges and universities and Best Southeastern College by The Princeton Review.

Abernathy, daughter of Michael and Tiffany, graduated from Fairview High School in 2012. She is a junior at Tennessee Tech.
