Talon
Talon Timeline
The Talon project is a large information finance and Human Resources modernization effort that will touch almost every system and workflow at Tennessee Tech.
A large project like this will be a significant amount of work for Tennessee Tech
staff. Planning for this large project began in 2022. Over the next year, the Finance
and HR departments will learn a new system while also managing day-to-day activities
that keep the university operational. The target launch date starts on October 1,
2023 for early planning and the kickoff meetings for Human Resources and Finance start
on January 8, 2024. We expect the Talon project to be completed between twelve and
eighteen months.

The below graphic shows a high-level roadmap through 2025 including initiatives rooted in the current state assessment and packaged under a single program. The months/quarters graphic reflects a calendar timeline.
Implementation of Talon
Tennessee Tech University is partnering with Oracle and a vendor as the campus moves forward with implementing the Talon project. Months of preliminary planning have already occurred on the Talon Project, and we are excited to officially begin the Enterprise Resource Planning implementation process. We plan to go-live for Human Resources and finance between January and May 2025. Upcoming phases include:

Design – beginning July 1, 2023, work sessions will be held to verify design, adjustments to scope will be made as required, and project tools will be established.

Configure – designing and building test systems and planning for deployment readiness.

Test – systems integration, user acceptance and system testing, develop training resources, mock data conversions.

Cutover – deliver training, go-live and post go-live support.

ERP Implementer Selection
We are selecting a partner to implement this software.
ERP Product Selection
Oracle Fusion Cloud has been selected for the Talon ERP Software System. Tennessee Tech personnel joined with the UT System and other LGI’s in evaluating capabilities of vendors responding to UT’s public solicitation.
Cloud-Readiness Assessment
In the Spring of 2022 working with the Huron Consulting group, we began a cloud-readiness assessment for both human resources and finance. The identified projects will help prepare us for the design and implementation phase of the new ERP. After July 1, 2023, a series of workshops will be held to verify the design of higher education standard processes and prioritize the critical reports needed for the business to function in preparation for the implementation phase to begin on January 1, 2024.
