The Office of Teacher Education (OTE) serves
College of Education students and licensed teachers as they pursue their education and career goals.

We are dedicated to the development and training of qualified teaching professionals to inspire and educate future generations.

To become a teacher in the state of Tennessee you must complete a licensure program at an approved college or university and then be licensed by the Tennessee Department of Education. The state approves programs and sets requirements for Tennessee institutions approved to offer teacher preparation programs.

OTE offers a range of accredited programs for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing teaching degrees and licensure, plus additional endorsement opportunities for currently licensed educators.

We provide programs and resources preparing students to achieve their initial teaching license in variety of K-12 subjects. Post-baccalaureate students (those with an bachelor's degree) may also pursue licensure with or without an advanced degree.
