2020 College of Engineering Faculty Journal Publications

Designated an “R2” research institution, Tennessee Tech is home to engineering, computer science and engineering technology faculty at the top of their fields who publish their research and discoveries in prestigious, peer-reviewed journals and share their findings at conferences spanning the globe. In 2020, College of Engineering faculty shared their research contributions in more than 120 journal articles, book chapters, paper presentations and conference proceedings—even Congressional testimony.

“Our research not only advances the academy, but also produces graduates capable of solving real-world problems, influences public policy and decision making, and provides opportunities for industry,” said Joseph Slater, dean of the College of Engineering at Tennessee Tech. “The discoveries our faculty are making today are the tools of tomorrow for our graduates and their fields.”

Scholarly works by faculty in Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, General and Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering cover a wide range of challenges facing the world today, with topics including:

  • using antimicrobial peptides from the human immune system as a COVID-9 antiviral drug.
  • how best to protect our “Internet of Things” home devices from cybersecurity threats.
  • using images to investigate illegal activity on the Dark Web.
  • methods for fabricating magnetic materials.
  • using hydrodynamic inundation modeling to assess climate change vulnerability of the southeast’s Conasauga River Watershed.
