Honors Housing
Murphy Hall
Honors students at Tech can enjoy living in Murphy Hall, where certain floors are set aside specifically for Honors students. Murphy has been fostering community in Honors since 1998 and was recently renovated in 2017 to include updated flooring, furnishings, laundry facilities, a kitchen, study rooms, a seminar room, a revamped lobby with TV and ping pong, a quiet lounge, a lending library, a meeting room, and outdoor hammock stands.
Types of rooms and room rates:
Room choices include three-person, two-person, single, or "super" single rooms (with full-size beds.) Check the Residential Life website for rates as well as room layouts, photos, and amenities.
For New Students
Murphy Hall has certain floors reserved for Honors students. You must apply and be admitted to the Honors Program to live there. Be sure to check the deadlines provided by Residential Life because late applications are reviewed case by case. We suggest applying early!
Notify Honors Assistant Director Mrs. Linda White at Lmwhite@tntech.edu of your plans to live in Murphy Hall, list "Murphy Hall" as your first choice on the Residential Life Housing Application, and select a room during the room selection period.
If you wish to room with a non-Honors student, you can request this from Mrs. White, but it will depend on space availability. Honors students receive housing priority. All new residents must sign the Honors Housing Agreement.

For Returning Honors Students
To maintain top priority for living in the Honors residence hall, you must stay eligible by completing at least one Honors credit-bearing requirement each semester until you fulfill all graduation requirements for in cursu honorum.
If you're currently in Honors Housing or wish to move to Murphy Hall from another residence hall, follow these steps:
- Submit a new Residential Life Housing Application, selecting Murphy Hall as your first choice.
- Choose a room in Murphy during the room selection period.
Deadlines for returning student applications will be announced via email by Residential Life, and placement depends on space availability.
