The Comprehensive/Interventionist concentration in Special Education studies the best
ways to educate and improve the lifestyles of children, youth and adults with a range
of challenges (learning, cognitive, behavioral, emotional, physical) and unique gifts.
Our curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation of teaching skills, access
to the latest in educational strategies, and instructional theory. Majors are further
prepared with broad subject knowledge (reading, math, science, history, etc.) needed
to teach all ages. Students pursuing this degree will earn teacher licensure for grades
K-12 with a focus on instructional strategies and methods relevant for elementary,
middle, and high school education. Students in licensure programs also engage in
extensive clinical experiences in public schools for hands-on training, professional
collaboration, and classroom management. Nationally accredited by the Council for
the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
