Sociology Internship Program

Receive credit and work in an area of your interest!

Internships in the fields of sociology, social work, and criminology and criminal justice are available to our sociology majors. The internship program is designed to place our majors with, and work in, public or private agencies that are compatible with their interests.

Internship Coordinator and Course Instructor:

Ms. Shelley Brown

Office: 230 Daniel Hall

Phone: 372-6122

Email: csbrown@tntech.edu

Prerequisite: Students must be sociology majors (which includes those on the general track, criminology and criminal justice concentration, and social work concentration) and have completed at least 9 hours in sociology/criminal justice/social work coursework and have completed 60 hours of university credit prior to placement. Also, they must have a 2.0 GPA for 3 hour course, a 2.5 GPA for 6 hour course, and a 3.0 GPA for any additional hours.

Course Details: Students may take a maximum of two internships for up to a total of 6 hours of Internship. Up to 6 hours may be taken for upper division credit to fulfill major or minor requirements with any additional hours counting as upper division general elective hours.

The internship is offered every fall and spring semester, and most summers.

Interested students should discuss the internship opportunity with their faculty mentors AND academic advisors and then attend a mandatory orientation meeting the semester prior to completing the internship (date and time announced via your Tennessee Tech email). While we strive to offer internships as a course every semester, summer internships cannot be guaranteed.
