Migration-Information

Canvas Course Migration

As part of the transition to Canvas, fall courses will be migrated from D2L iLearn during the spring and summer. An outline of this process as well as next steps can be found below. If you have questions regarding the migration, please email citl@tntech.edu.

Migration Plan

To help ensure course content is migrated correctly and efficiently, Tennessee Tech has partnered with K16 and Canvas to migrate courses from D2L iLearn to Canvas for Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027. This process will take place over the next year beginning with the migration of Fall 2026 courses this spring.

Step 1: Complete the Fall 2026 Course Migration Form by Friday, April 10th

Step 2: Course Preparation Checklist - ensure your course materials for your Fall 2026 course shell in D2L iLearn are ready for migration.

Step 3: Learn more about Canvas through our faculty training and practicing in your Sandbox. If you do not have a Canvas Sandbox, complete this request form

Course Preparation

As we prepare to migrate courses from D2L iLearn to Canvas, it is important that faculty review their course materials and ensure their course content is up-to-date and in an exportable format. This includes: 1) ensuring all video (mp4) content has been transferred to YuJa Media, 2) Course Files are organized and update to date, and 3) all quizzes have a time limit. These three things will help while we work on migrating course content.

Exporting D2L Content

Course content in D2L will be migrated based on category.

Course Materials

Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027 course material will be migrated for you. Fall 2026 information is available at the top of this page. Spring and Summer 2027 information will be shared soon.

D2L Archived Courses

D2L Archived Courses will also be stored. We recognize the importance of preserving course materials beyond the migration process. To ensure that no instructional content is lost, the university will maintain archived access to D2L course materials for reference purposes after the transition.

D2L Sandbox Materials

Quiz Question Banks, Resources, supporting material: Any material not associated with a course shell for Fall 2026, Spring, or Summer 2027 can be exported from your D2L Sandbox to your Canvas Sandbox. Additional information for this process will be shared after Spring Break. We encourage faculty to work through the Canvas Faculty Training first.
