Annual Events
Constitution Day
The Nolan Fowler Constitution Day Celebration commemorates the signing of the U.S.
Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. Named in honor of Nolan Fowler, a retired history
professor at Tennessee Tech who taught constitutional development at the university
from 1962 to 1979. This planned annual event is made possible each year due to his
commitment to establish the Constitution Day Celebration at Tennessee Tech.
Stonecipher Lecture Series
The Stonecipher Lecture was created to invite leading scholars and thinkers to address
the relationship between science and contemporary society. Harry Stonecipher, a 1960
Tech graduate, is the former president and chief operating officer of The Boeing Co.
and worked for major industrial firms including General Motors, General Electric and
McDonnell Douglas.
Winchester History Lecture Series
The Winchester Lecture Series is in its second decade. Typically held in the spring, it has featured presenters on a wide array of topics. Its sponsor, Mike Winchester, is a History Department graduate, an attorney in Knoxville, and a member of the Tennessee Tech Sports Hall of Fame.
Womack Southern History Lecture Series
The Womack Southern History Lecture series began in 2016. The sponsor, Dr. Charles
Womack, former mayor of Cookeville, endowed the series in honor of his mother, a lifelong
history teacher. It is held every fall, typically in early November, the time of Ms.
Womack's birthday.
