Projects include new buildings, the renovation of multiple buildings, parking lot construction, and infrastructure work. This website highlights in-progress construction projects. Active Construction Projects
J. J. Oakley Innovation Center & Residence Hall
This 102,000 square foot residence hall will provide 400 new student beds in a mix of double-occupancy rooms and semi-suites in a pod-style layout. Amenities will include an activity/multi-purpose room, community kitchen, lounge, and quiet rooms on the main level, with study areas, kitchenettes, pod-living areas, and laundry facilities on each residential floor.
The new facility will also include a 12,000 square foot Innovation Center providing fabrication spaces, a flexible event and presentation space opening onto an outdoor plaza overlooking the lake, a podcast studio, collaboration rooms, and offices. Designed to spark creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurship among students and the community, the Innovation Center will be open to all students regardless of major. The Innovation Center will also offer a convenience store dining component with coffee, snacks, drinks, frozen, and prepared food options available.
New Tucker Stadium West
A winning university football program can generate tremendous benefits to the campus and local community. It can boost the local economy, strengthen the community/campus relationship, create spirit and pride in the student body, and generate publicity and visibility that increases student enrollment. The New Tucker Stadium West is critical to Tech's football success.
The New Tucker Stadium West will be approximately 86,790 gross square feet and will be located on the site of the existing West Stands. The facility will provide three levels of seating, concessions, spirit shop, ticket booths, game day locker room, and ancillary spaces required to support game day activities.
Premium seating will be available. The Concourse Level will include chair back and drink rail seating. The Club Level will provide a mixture of loge seating and chair back seating. The new facility will also offer premium rentable Suites. The Press Box Level will support enhanced game day operations. A conceptual rendering of the facility is shown at left.
Demolition of the existing West Stadium facility began in August 2024 and will complete in September 2026.
Johnson Hall Renovation & Foster Hall Demolition
Johnson Hall is home of the College of Business and its four academic units: Accounting and Business Law; Economics, Finance, and Marketing; Decision Sciences and Management, and Graduate Studies. This four-story building was constructed in the late 60’s, was occupied in 1970, and contains 68,171 gross square feet. The building has undergone several classroom updates in the last decade and a new roof was installed in 2021. The renovation will update the existing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, which have exceeded their life expectancy. Other renovations and updates required include asbestos abatement, updated finishes (walls, floors, ceilings), enlarged elevator, new fixtures in restrooms, doors/hardware, and window replacement.
Foster Hall was demolished in August 2024 as part of this project, opening up additional green space for the campus adjacent to the new Wilmore Way pedestrian mall and plaza.
