Banner 9 SSB Overview
Tennessee Tech University is in the process of transitioning to Banner 9 SSB. Tennessee Tech utilizes Ellucian's Banner suite as its student information system. Self Service Banner (SSB) is the web-based Banner application users interact with to access basic functions of the system. The Tennessee Tech community refers to this system as Eagle Online and it is accessible via Tech Express. Banner 9 SSB allows students and faculty to use SSB for class registration, viewing student records, accessing financial aid information, and more. In addition to new functionality, one of the advantages of SSB 9 is that it also offers a fresh, new interface.
Why are we upgrading to Banner 9 SSB?
This update will replace Banner 8 support as it enters discontinuation. With Banner
9, there will be an overall improvement to browser compatibility issues, reduce security
threats, and enhance overall accessibility.
When Banner 9 Self-Service is live in production, will Banner 8 Self-Service be disabled
immediately?
Eventually, the plan is to redirect all Banner Self-Service 8 links directly to Banner
Self-Service 9.However, there are still ongoing releases for the Student functionality
of Banner 9 SSB, so we are releasing the Faculty functionality at this time. Some
Banner 9 SSB links will still point back to Banner 8 SSB links at this time, so some
features will still look the same and remain unchanged.
Tennessee Tech is still working with other Tennessee peer institutions, Ellucian and the Tennessee Board of Regents systems on testing and vetting upgrades and releases to the system.

While the functionality of the Final Grades link is still much the same, the user interface is quite different. To access Grading:

- Under Instructional Faculty Tools, click Faculty Grade Entry.
- Click on a course to start entering grades. When all information is entered, it will
show completed as the status.

or an "I" grade. A date will be required for these grade choices.
- Last dates of attendance are required for "FA" and "FN" grades.
- A grade extension date is required for "I" grades. "I" grades also require the completion of a "Report of Incomplete."
- You only have to enter a final grade, unless the grade is an "FA" grade, '"FN"" grade
or an "I" grade. A date will be required for these grade choices.
- Make sure you save your work and avoid inactivity to avoid the system timing out and losing your work !
- Class List
The class list is available in the Instructional Faculty Tools section of SSB9:
- Choose the course.
- You can use the top right export or print icons to export an excel file of your class roster, or to print it.
- You can select all students and then click on the email icon to send an email to all enrolled students. The class list shows you the course enrollment, waitlist, and student information.
- Advisor Tools
Advisor tools are also available on the Faculty and Advisor Tools page. You will no longer see tabs at the top, rather, there is a comprehensive, bullet list of options to choose from so that all options are available to you in one view. Some of the features will point back to Banner 8 SSB, and that is normal and expected as we work through completing the transition.
