Exercise Science

Bachelor of Science Degree

Our undergraduate degree program is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and approved by the State of Tennessee. Our six (6) B.S. degree concentrations allow students to select from an array of professional and pre-professional fields of study.

Degree Concentrations

  • Exercise Physiology

    Our Exercise Physiology program offers a strong foundation in fitness/wellness, with an emphasis on the physiology of exercise, kinesiology, and career preparation as a sports medical professional. Graduates will possess the ability to review, evaluate, and study the body's responses to physical activity as well as how the body adapts to that activity over time.

    Kinesiology is the scientific study of human or non-human body movement and addresses physiological, biomechanical, and psychological dynamic principles/mechanisms of movement.

  • K-12 Physical Education

    Experience cutting-edge courses in exercise science, develop sports skills, integrate technology and exercise, learn instructional strategies and games while you prepare for a successful career doing what you love.

    One-year residencies in local school systems are classroom immersion experiences for training future our educators.

  • Physical Education Practitioner

    The Physical Education Practitioner concentration is a non-licensure degree. Practitioners have access to a variety of courses and interactive experiences preparing graduates with a strong foundation and superior skills for an array of careers in physical education. Those include integrating instructional technology, physical fitness, support services, program management, and more.

  • Fitness & Wellness

    Learn about physical wellness strategies for all ages, management and organizational behavior, performance, training, adapted physical activities, and psychology.

  • Sport Administration

    Experience courses in sport management and organization, coaching, officiating, sports governance and ethics, the psychology of sport, and marketing.

  • Pre-Athletic Training

    This concentration prepares students for the next step — entering a quality master’s program to continue their education as a medical professional.

    Your undergraduate training includes not only courses in physiology, physical wellness, and the sciences, but also interactive field experiences with actual clients in a clinical setting.

  • Pre-Occupational  & Physical Therapies

    These programs include not only courses in physiology, physical wellness, and the sciences, but also interactive field experiences with actual clients.

    We give graduates superior educational and clinical backgrounds to excel in rewarding careers in essential health services.

    You can enjoy an in-demand work experience while assisting clients in developing and maintaining dexterity and mobility, evaluating the unique needs of patients, and improving their quality of life.

  • Pre-Physician Assistant

    The Pre-Physician Assistant concentration offers pre-professionals a comprehensive, foundational program in the medical sciences, clinical settings, patient interaction, and evaluation preparing our graduates to successfully pursue the next steps in their professional programs and careers.

    PAs carry out many of the same functions as traditional physicians, including examining patients, prescribing medicine, and ordering diagnostic tests. Generally, PAs work under the supervision of physicians or surgeons.

Fast Track to Your Master's Degree
Six Hours of Graduate Credit - Ask How!

  • The Fast Track program is designed to enable Tech undergraduates to accumulate up to six (6) credit hours of graduate coursework, to satisfy both undergraduate and graduate degree requirements, while still pursuing their undergraduate degree.

    The Fast Track option is currently for selected concentrations
    (please consult your advisor).

    Fast Track Forms

    Please visit the College of Graduate Studies for these two (2) current forms:

    Fast Track Acceptance Form | Fast Track Course Credit Form

    The coursework enables an efficient graduate program transition with the potential for accelerated completion; courses must be taken at Tennessee Tech.

    Minimum Admission Requirements for Fast Track

    1) Enrolled as an undergraduate with at least 90 hours of completed courses within their program of study;

    2) Overall GPA of at least 3.25 or better;

    3) Recommendation from the student’s undergraduate advisor;

    4) Course approval from the appropriate graduate faculty member or advisor.
