Bring Your Own Device

The College of Education and the diverse departments within the college prepare candidates to be competent, caring professionals in a diverse, technological society. Students are engaged in many curricular and field-based activities requiring constant access and integration of technology.

  • All students are required to have an entry-level (primary) portable computing device (laptop).
  • Note that secondary computing devices like tablets can be used, however they are not considered primary computing devices.

  • Laptop Specification Minimums

    Mac (2015 or newer)

    Processor: Intel-based Core i-Series 
    Operating System: OSX 10.9 or higher
    Screen size: 11 inch or higher 
    RAM: 8GB or higher
    Storage: 250gb or higher
    Webcam and microphone


    Windows (2015 or newer)

    Processor: Intel-based Core i-Series or AMD equivalent
    Operating System: Windows 7 or higher
    Screen size: 11 inch or higher
    RAM: 8GB or higher
    Storage: 250gb or higher
    Webcam and microphone


    Chromebook (2015 or newer)

    Processor: Intel-based Core i-Series or AMD equivalent
    Screen size: 11 inch or higher
    RAM: 4GB or higher
    Webcam and microphone

    *(minimal specifications may experience limited functionality with some applications)

    Tk20 is an online portfolio management system that is required of all College of Education majors. For additional info, please see www.tntech.edu/education/tk20/.

    Free licenses of SPPS for current Faculty, Staff, and Students are available. For additional info, please see ttuapps.tntech.edu.

    Coming soon are free licenses of ActivInspire for student use and keep after graduation.

  • Financial Aid for Technology

    Available financial aid for the amount of up to $2,000 can be used towards the purchase of a computing device with necessary software.
