First BIOL/SOES Student Research Colloquium

The Department of Biology and School of Environmental Sciences gathered on the afternoon of Friday, April 5, 2024, for our first BIOL/SOES Student Research Colloquium! This event was an excellent opportunity for our students to share, teach, and collaborate on a variety of unique topics which have been crucial in their research efforts. We enjoyed two rounds of research presentations followed by a poster social with refreshments.

Long presentations (15 minutes + 5 minutes Q&A) were given by students Brooke Grubb, Julia Thulander, Chris Waters, Kitty Phillips, and Cory Highway. Our students giving short presentations (5 minutes + 3 minutes Q&A) were Peter Blum, Haley Oakley, Hannah Swain-Menzel, Seth Haston, Dalton Tryba, Katelynn Sallack, and Tony Kumetis. Poster Social participants were Cory Highway, Gabbi Beck, Kirsten Humphries, Iroda Abdullaeva, Gabi Barrett, William Hyder, and Nathan Owens.

"It was a great afternoon! What a great way to celebrate the hard work of our student researchers and showcase their results. Our students are the heart and soul of our research labs, and we're very proud of their accomplishments!" said Steve Hayslette, Chair of the Department of Biology.

Given how much we enjoyed this event, we’re hopeful to make this an annual tradition. We hope to see you at next year’s BIOL/SOES Student Research Colloquium!
