Tennessee Tech Art Education provides innovative courses and diverse experiences for students seeking careers as arts educators and arts professionals in a variety of venues. The curriculum culminates in a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Art Education. The program encompasses a wide array of offerings and coursework in studio arts, education, K–12 field experiences, and teacher certification. Tennessee Tech Art Education has a strong emphasis on licensure exam preparation and job readiness to ensure graduates are fully prepared when beginning their careers in the arts.
Students build pedagogical foundations through learning methods of teaching, classroom management, curriculum design, instructional planning practices, and engaging forms of student assessment. Tennessee Tech Art Education courses also explore contemporary topics like arts-based research, community engagement, emerging digital technologies, social justice, STEAM education, visual culture studies, and much more. This program is based on Tennessee and national visual arts standards and mirrors the Tennessee Tech College of Education conceptual framework for the preparation of “competent and caring professionals for a diverse, technological society."
